Our Commitment to Responsible Tourism:

Supporting Cuban Communities Through Meaningful Travel

At Project Por Amor, we believe that travel should be a force for good. Our tours are designed to create meaningful connections, support local economies, and preserve cultural heritage. By prioritizing people-to-people engagement, we ensure that every journey to Cuba has a positive and lasting impact on the communities we visit.

Supporting Local Communities

We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach the Cuban people directly. That’s why we travel to Cuba under the Support for the Cuban People license, which requires that all activities meaningfully engage with and benefit Cuban individuals and small businesses. We exclusively book locally owned accommodations (casas particulares) instead of government-run hotels, dine at family-run restaurants (paladares) that source ingredients locally, and hire Cuban guides, artists, and experts to lead our tours. Every dollar spent supports small businesses, independent artists, and entrepreneurs, strengthening the local economy in a country where resources are scarce.

Meaningful Cultural Exchange

Our tours are built around authentic, immersive experiences that connect travelers with Cuban culture, history, and daily life. We collaborate with musicians, dancers, and visual artists, providing them with a platform to share their work while offering travelers a firsthand look at Cuba’s thriving creative scene. Through guided discussions, performances, and hands-on activities, we create opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, ensuring that travel to Cuba is not just about observation but about genuine engagement.

Giving Back Through Humanitarian Efforts

We encourage each traveler to bring essential supplies—such as medicine, toiletries, music supplies, athletic equipment, and more—to donate. Because of the U.S. embargo, basic necessities are often scarce, making these contributions invaluable to local communities.

We partner with U.S. humanitarian organizations such as Days for Girls, which creates reusable menstruation kits and donates medications for autism and cerebral palsy. You can read more about Days for Girls and their work here! These partnerships allow our travelers to bring much-needed donations to Cuba at no cost, making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.
