For over twenty years, you've trusted us to open the cultural doors of Cuba and Iceland, creating connections far beyond typical tourism. Now, we are thrilled to bring that same dedication and authentic, insider access to America's most culturally vital city. We'll connect you directly with the artists, historians, and cultural guardians offering you the very same intimate access to the minds and hearts shaping this distinctive American treasure.

This is an invitation from the people who actually preserve, protect, and shape New Orleans' living culture—the urban geographer who decoded why certain neighborhoods flood while others don't, the food critic who knows every chef's grandmother's recipe, the preservationists who've saved entire neighborhoods from demolition, and the jazz musicians who open their living rooms for intimate performances.

On March 3-9, 2026: The Architecture and Culture of New Orleans offers something no other tour can: a partnership with the   Preservation Resource Center, the organization that has been fighting to save authentic New Orleans for 50 years. Their networks and advocacy work provide access that no other tour can offer. This means you don't just observe New Orleans culture. You sit at the table with the people who shape it.

What this means for you:

  • Private access to collections of treasures that should be in museums (but are still for sale)

  • Conversations with Richard Campanella, the urban geographer, (whose 11 books about New Orleans now required reading at universities) about how racial and class dynamics are built into the urban fabric and what preservation battles reveal about the soul of American cities

  • Dinner with the renowned food critic Ian McNulty at a legendary roadhouse where locals have guarded their Sicilian secrets for nearly eight decades

  • Guided architectural visits to St. Louis Cathedral, St. Roch's Cemetery, Pitot House, Long Vue House & Garden, the Whitney Plantation, RIcca's Architectural Salvage, and Carrollton neighborhood

  • A jazz salon with Tom McDermott that takes you through the evolution of New Orleans piano. Live Cajun music with crawfish at a rural hole-in-the-wall along the Great River Road. Jazz roots concerts at Preservation Hall, Chickie Wah Wah, Frenchman Street, and beyond

  • The full range of creole cuisine at Brennan's, Mosca's, Felix's, Parkway Tavern, Napoleon House, Gris-Gris, and Tan Dinh

  • And so much more!

Early registration is available exclusively for our community of past travelers now.

The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans and Project Por Amor have partnered to create a one-of-a-kind, seven-day insider’s exploration of the Crescent City. Highlights include dinner with acclaimed food critic Ian McNulty, discussions with Tulane urban geographer Richard Campanella, and intimate conversations with neighborhood advocates who have shaped the city’s evolution. Guests will also enjoy behind-the-scenes access to legendary institutions like M.S. Rau Antiques and the Napoleon House, private living-room jazz performances, and a Vietnamese-Creole dining experience on the West Bank. More than sightseeing, this is an immersive educational journey into the heart of America’s most culturally rich city. Cannot imagine a better introduction and understanding of Cuba than we were able to attain from this travel opportunity. The other travelers in the program were an integral part of making the tour such a memorable experience. Thank you!"

  • "I had an extraordinary trip to Southern Iceland with Project Por Amor. All of the details of the trip were finely thought out to provide an exceptional experience. I greatly appreciated the intimate experiences of visiting artist studios and homes for conversation, viewing visual art and listening to musical performances. The landscape sights the group visited were amazing and otherworldly as well."
