DAY 1: MONDAY, JANUARY 11 | WELCOME TO MOROCCO

Arrive at Mohammed V International Airport or Rabat Sale Airport and transfer to Hotel Villa Mandarine

In the Casablanca (CMN) and Rabat (RBA) airports, you will be greeted by a Project Por Amor Representative, identified by signage. Taxi services, including tips, are included. The drive from the airport in Casablanca is approximately 90 minutes, and from Rabat, is a 25 minute ride to the hotel.

Your two-night stay in the beautiful Hotel Villa Mandarine in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city awaits. Well-located in the upscale Agdal neighborhood, we’ll be just minutes from the city’s most treasured historic landmarks. Settle into a serene oasis: the property is surrounded by three acres of lush gardens, sculptures and more than 700 fragrant orange trees. Unwind after your journey with a refreshing swim in the pool, a quiet stroll through the grounds, or a cocktail in the lounge. The hotel also has an exercise room and hammam (spa). Guest rooms will be ready for check-in after 3:00 PM. If you arrive earlier, we will do our best to secure your rooms as soon as possible.

7:00 pm ~ Welcome cocktails & group orientation

Meet your Project Por Amor Staff and fellow travelers at the orientation meeting for an overview and welcome drink. The Tour Guide will provide an overview of the journey we are about to embark on together. Having a sense of curiosity, asking engaging questions and diving deeply into subject matter creates a magical and meaningful journey. Arabic, Darija (a Moroccan Arabic dialect), French, Spanish and English are spoken in Morocco.

The group will share a meal at the Hotel Villa Mandarine, considered one of the best restaurants in the area. Orchestrated by the talented chef Sylvain Brucato, it serves carefully prepared, delicious, local flavors. Beverages include a glass of wine, or beer, or juice, plus mineral water, tea, or coffee. After dinner, enjoy the peaceful surroundings filled with flowers and the scent of fruit trees.

DAY 2: TUESDAY, JANUARY 12 | RABAT

9:00 am ~ City tour of Rabat: bus and walking

Join a guided tour by bus and foot. We’ll visit iconic landmarks such as the Bab Rouah, the city's "Gate of the Winds," built in the 12th century, then to the Royal Palace, home of the current king of Morocco, Mohammad VI. Then we’ll view the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, that houses the tombs of King Mohammed V and his two sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. Finally, a walking tour of the Kasbah des Oudayas and the old Medina where you will see classic Moroccan architecture and tilework.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at La Menora Restaurant, known for its Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoy several choices from a pre-set menu. Finish with a lovely pastry dessert before we venture to our afternoon destination: Chellah.

2:30 pm ~ Visit to Chellah

After lunch, the group will tour the archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site site of Chellah. Perched on the edge of Rabat overlooking the Bou Regreg River, it was once a thriving Roman city called Sala Colonia before becoming a royal Merenid necropolis in the 13th century. Wandering its sunlit pathways, we will encounter ornate carved doorways, a tranquil sacred pool shimmering with eels, and the gentle sound of storks echoing through the ruin. Chellah embodies living testimony of Morocco's history and the evolution of its civilization. When we enter the site, you are walking through the same gateway that welcomed medieval pilgrims.

4:00 pm ~ Afternoon and dinner on your own

Explore more of Rabat on your own. We will make recommendations to other interesting sites, activities or restaurants. Dinner is on your own.

DAY 3: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13 I MEKNES

8:00 am ~ Travel to Fez with a stop in Meknes

After breakfast, we’ll check out of Hotel Villa Mandarine to enjoy a beautiful drive to Fez. Before arriving in Fez, we will stop in Meknes, about a two hour drive from Rabat.

10:30 am ~ Guided tour of Meknes

Meknes is the former capital of Morocco and considered one of the four Imperial Cities (Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes and Rabat). We will tour the city of Meknes for approximately one hour, where the tour guide will provide historical content about the region. We will see Bab Mansour Gate and the Moulay Ishmael Mausoleum inside the mosque. The Bab Mansour Gate is located on the south side of Place el-Hedim Square in the old city. It was originally the main ceremonial entrance to the Kasbah of Sultan Moulay Ismail, built in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Today it is one of the most famous and admired landmarks. It is a beautifully patterned design using zellige mosaics. We will learn more about tile work on our journey. Then we will view the Royal Palace on the way to Volubilis.

11:45 am ~ Visit Volubilis

Visit Volubilis, the ancient Roman ruins. A local guide will take you to explore the ruins with historical background and content information. There you can purchase a light snack before we depart at 1:00 pm for the Women’s collective for a preset lunch.

2:00 pm ~ Lunch at Women’s Association

Enjoy lunch and visit at the Women’s Association, offering insight into local women’s empowerment initiatives. Guests will enjoy freshly prepared regional dishes while directly supporting community-led projects and creating a positive social impact. The President of the Association will discuss women’s empowerment movements in Morocco.

3:30 pm ~ Travel to Fez

After lunch, we will continue on the bus to Fez, approximately 90 minutes from Meknes. 

5:00 pm ~ Check in to Riad Salam & short architectural tour

We will be staying at the beautiful Riad Salam-Fez, a beautifully restored palace of the XIVth century. This Moorish temple located in the heart the Medina of Fez (classified as a historic monument by UNESCO). Its crystal atmosphere fountains, mosaics, marble and stucco embody the Moroccan ancient arts. A welcome drink will be served as you settle in and explore. A representative will provide a 30-minute overview of the history of the Riad and how they became a notable form of Moroccan architecture and mosaic.

6:15 pm ~ Dinner or dinner show on your own

The rest of your evening is at leisure. You have the option of joining a dinner show in a Riad in the medina of Fez, venture out to find dinner, book a massage at the Hammam, or ask for suggestions of activities outside the Riad (dinner and transportation not included).

DAY 4: THURSDAY, JANUARY 14 | FEZ

Enjoy breakfast in the Riad before we depart for a busy day in Fez. Breakfast opens at 7:00 AM.

8:00 am ~ Bus and walking tour of Fez

Depart by bus toward the Royal Palace (Dar al-Makhzen) for an exterior visit and photo stop at its magnificent golden gates, followed by a walk through the Mellah (Jewish Quarter) that includes an introduction to the history of the Jewish community in Fez, the Jewish Cemetery and the Synagogue.

10:30 am ~ Borj Janoubi

After the walking tour, we go by bus to the Borj Janoubi with a beautiful panoramic view of the medina. Borj Janoubi (Borj Sud or South Fortress) is a 16th-century Saadian fortress located on a hill overlooking the Fez el Bali medina in Fez, Morocco. Built by Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur, it offers panoramic views of the city, serving as a historic viewpoint and counterpart to the Borj Nord fortress.

11:15 am ~ Workshop at traditional tile factory

We will then travel by bus to visit the Tile Factory, where you will experience a traditional tile workshop to learn about the art of Moroccan Zellige (Art Naji). A tile expert will provide a detailed explanation of tiling.  Learn about techniques, history, and patterns with an opportunity to purchase tiles.

12:30 pm ~ Walking tour of Medina and dying tannery

After the tile factory visit, we will transfer by bus for a walking tour in the Medina, inhabited by the Andalusian people. Walking highlights include the R’cif area and traditional souks, The Chouara Tannery (the iconic dyeing area), Seffarine Square (coppersmiths), the exterior of Al-Karaouine Mosque & University, a visit to Attarine Madrasa and finally Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss II. The Tannery is located in the heart of the Fes el-Bali medina. Operating since the 11th century, this historic site features stone vats filled with natural dyes—such as indigo (blue), saffron (yellow), and poppy (red)—used to color leather, often accompanied by a pungent odor.

1:30 pm ~ Lunch at local restaurant

After the walking tour, we will enjoy a group lunch at a cozy local restaurant in the Medina.

After lunch we will continue our Medina Walking Tour to explore, Nejjarine Museum area and fountain, Traditional souks, and finally, the textile cooperative visit. (Order or sites may change depending on crowds and availability)

5:00 pm ~ Return to hotel/riad and evening on your own

The remainder of the afternoon and dinner are at your leisure. We can provide recommendations for additional sites or dining options.

Recommendation: Arrange an authentic Hamman experience at the hotel. A deep-cleansing ritual using steam, black soap (savon noir), and a Kessa exfoliating glove to remove dead skin, leaving you feeling exceptionally soft and rejuvenated.

DAY 5: FRIDAY, JANUARY 15 | TRAVEL DAY TO ERFOUD

Enjoy a continental breakfast at the Riad starting at 6:30 AM.  We will check out of the hotel and depart on a full day bus ride to Erfoud. 

8:45 am ~ Drive to Erfoud

After breakfast, we will make our way to Erfoud via the Middle Atlas Mountains. The drive today takes roughly seven hours, but we will stop along the way for rest breaks and to experience different landscapes, and see European influences in the architecture. On the way to Erfoud, we will make a brief coffee stop at Ifrane, a ski resort dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco”. Next, we will drive to see the primates that thrive in the cedar tree groves.  The Barbary macaque, also known as the Barbary ape, are the only wild primates in North Africa and one of the few living outside of Asia. These macaques are found in the cedar and oak forests of the Atlas Mountains, with popular viewing locations including Ifrane National Park and near Azrou. The species is critically endangered due to habitat loss from logging and climate change, as well as illegal poaching and trafficking for the pet trade.

12:00 pm ~ Lunch on your own

We will stop on the way to Erfoud for lunch on your own. We will provide you the menu choices ahead of time and lunch will be ready upon arrival. After lunch, relax on the bus as we drive through beautiful landscapes, riverbeds, canyons and a lush oasis. We will continue on at 1:00 pm.

5:00 pm ~ Check in to Hotel Xaluca Maadid-Erfoud

Located in Arfoud, the gateway to the Sahara, Kasbah Hotel Xaluca is a one-of-a-kind desert retreat built from traditional adobe. Set among palms and dunes, the hotel blends authentic Moroccan design with modern comforts, spacious rooms, and desert bungalows. After check in, we will settle in and watch the sun set over the sand dunes from the rooftop, relax by the pool or have a drink in the bar.

Join the group for dinner. The buffet offers a wide variety of dishes from vegetarian options, a variety of meats and seafood, veggies and desserts.

After dinner, sit poolside for entertainment by local musicians, get a drink at the bar, or enjoy an evening swim.

DAY 6: SATURDAY, JANUARY 16 | SAHARA

Enjoy breakfast in the dining room from 7:00 AM, before checking out of Hotel Xaluca Maadid-Erfoud. Pack an overnight bag.

We will depart for the Sahara Desert for an unforgettable excursion.

10:30 am ~ Aoufous Oasis immersion

We will take the bus to Aoufous Oasis Immersion in the Ziz Valley, where we will have a guided walk through the palm grove. You will learn about the traditional irrigation (khettara) systems. We will also stop at a small village school to meet the school children and provide school supplies to them and speak with a local family.

Enjoy a warm, home-hosted lunch prepared by a local family in Aoufous, featuring the regional specialty Medfouna and offering a meaningful connection with local oasis life.

2:30 pm ~ Gnawa living room concert

We will stop in Khamlia Village for a 45-minute Gnawa music concert in the living room of the musicians, followed by a 15-minute Q&A. Khamlia is a small village in southeastern Morocco known for its vibrant Gnawa music and culture. Situated near the Erg Chebbi dunes, about 7 kilometers from the town of Merzouga, it is home to a community whose ancestors were brought to Morocco from sub-Saharan Africa.

4:00 pm ~ Transfer by bus to a Camel Ride

Luggage will be transferred separately by 4×4 vehicle to the desert camp Continue by bus to the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Enjoy a festive Moroccan dinner party featuring cooked salads, seasonal vegetables, assorted grilled meats, fresh fruits, and pastries, followed by local music and entertainment under the stars.

Relax in your private luxury tent. After dinner, enjoy time in the community tent or your private tent. All tents are fully equipped and comfortable with air conditioning or heat. Each tent has its own private bedroom and shower (yes, with hot water). Toiletries, slippers and bathrobes are also included.

5:30 pm ~ Sunset Camel Ride to Desert Camp

We’ll ride camels across the dunes toward the luxury desert “glamping” — a truly magical Sahara experience.

DAY 7: SUNDAY, JANUARY 17 | TODRA GORGE & DADES CANYONS

If you are an early riser, feel free to wake up very early to enjoy the sunrise over the Sahara! Enjoy breakfast from 7:30 AM before we depart for the Todra Gorges and Ait Benhaddou.

9:00 am ~ Depart for Todra Gorges and travel to Dades

We will check out of the luxury tents and depart via 4×4 vehicles from the dunes to the bus in Merzouga to the meeting point.

10:30 am ~ Fossil factory visit

Before we make our way toward Todra, we will stop at the Macro Fossil Factory and Shop. Paleontological research shows that the Erfoud region was once an ancient seabed rich in marine life. During the visit, you will discover trilobites, crinoids, ammonites, goniatites, and other fossils quarried in the area. A specialist will explain the geological history and fossil preparation techniques.

11:30 am ~ Continue through Todra region

We will depart the Fossil Factory and begin our scenic drive toward the Todra Region. The journey will take us through pre-Saharan landscapes, small villages, and dramatic desert scenery.

1:30 pm ~ Garden lunch stop (on your own)

We’ll stop at a restaurant with a garden setting for a relaxing lunch break. Guests can enjoy a pleasant outdoor atmosphere and time to refresh before continuing the journey.

2:30 pm ~ Continue to Todra Gorge and Dades Canyon

After lunch we will continue our drive toward the spectacular Todra Gorge. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a short, guided stop and easy walk inside the canyon, with time for photography and to admire the towering limestone cliffs carved by the Todra River over millennia.

Perched high in the Atlas Mountains, Xaluca Dades Hotel offers sweeping views of the dramatic Dades Valley, dotted with Berber villages and rugged peaks. DAY 8: MONDAY, JANUARY 18 | MARRAKESH

Enjoy a relaxed buffet breakfast before beginning today’s scenic journey toward Marrakesh. Today’s route crosses historic caravan landscapes, Amazigh cultural regions, and the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. We will end our journey today in Marrakesh, known as the red city.

8:00 am ~ Depart Dades

We begin our westward drive through the Valley of Roses and the pre-Saharan foothills, a region long shaped by oasis agriculture, seasonal trade routes, and Amazigh Mountain communities.

9:00 am ~ Kelaa M’Gouna: Rose region discovery

On our way we will stop in Kelaa M’Gouna, Morocco’s renowned rose-growing region, for an introduction to the Damask rose tradition. There we will learn about cultivating roses in semi-arid climates, traditional distillation methods, the role of women’s cooperatives in the local economy, and the cultural importance of the annual Rose Festival. You will be able to visit a local cooperative where guests can observe production and interact with the women involved in this important regional craft.

9:30 am ~ Architecture of Ouarzazate

Pause near Kasbah Taourirt, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family and one of the finest examples of southern Moroccan kasbah architecture. This is a brief exterior stop for photography and historical explanation (no interior visit). Learning focus: The political role of the Glaoui dynasty, key features of kasbah architecture, Ouarzazate as the historic gateway to the desert (approx. 15–20 minutes).

12:00 pm ~ Walk and lunch in Ait Ben Haddou

Enjoy a relaxed lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. This break provides time to refresh before the afternoon heritage exploration (lunch on your own — approx. 1 hour).

1:00 pm ~ Depart for Marrakesh

We will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass on our way to one of the four Imperial Cities of Morocco, Marrakesh.

6:30 pm ~ Check in to Hotel 2Ciels

Enjoy a two-night stay at the luxury boutique Hotel and Spa 2Ciels. It is centrally located within the city of Marakesh’s clay and chalk walls within walking distance from the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. Take time to settle into the hotel until we meet for a group dinner.

Enjoy dinner with the group at the 2Ciels Hotel’s Restaurant. Relax after dinner, or walk to the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, visit a music club, or go shopping at the local mall. Marrakesh is a city that never sleeps.

DAY 9: TUESDAY, JANUARY 19 | THE RED CITY

9:00 am ~ Tour of Marrakesh by bus and foot

After breakfast, we will explore the “Red City” of Marrakesh. Visit the restored 16th century Saadian Tombs, where you will learn about the Saadian dynasty, and learn about Funerary art, Zellige and carved plaster. These tombs were rediscovered in 1917. Then we’ll see the Bahia Palace, a late 19th-century palace built and expanded in two main phases for two successive grand viziers of the sultan. Its name, which means "brilliance" in Arabic, honors one of its owner's favorite wives. The guide will also discuss the Andalusian-Moroccan designs and influences. Then, we will have a guided walking tour through the vibrant souks. We will visit a Berber Herbal homeopathic pharmacy for approximately 30 minutes, where you will learn how Moroccans combine western medicine with natural local medicinal plants.  You can purchase cooking spices and other herbal medicines at the pharmacy.

12:30 pm ~ Lunch at local restaurant

We will enjoy a traditional group lunch together in the Red City.

2:00 pm ~ Jemaa el-Fnaa Square

We will walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, where you will experience the sights and smells of Marrakesh. You will see the famous snake charmers, vendors with souvenirs, and many traditional Moroccan items. Then we will make our way to the Koutoubia Mosque and stop for coffee.

4:30 pm ~ Return to hotel and evening at leisure

Enjoy a relaxed evening at leisure at 2Ciels Boutique Hôtel & Spa. Unwind on the panoramic rooftop terrace, take a dip in the pool, or sip a cocktail as the sun sets over Marrakech. The evening is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

DAY 10: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20 | THE RED CITY

An American style buffet breakfast is available at the hotel. Meet in the hotel lobby at 9:30 am to depart for the Majorelle Garden.

Created in the 1920s by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, this iconic garden is one of Marrakesh’s most beloved cultural landmarks. A tranquil oasis amid the city’s energy, it features striking Majorelle Blue architecture, tranquil fountains, and rare plant species from around the world. The garden also reflects the layered history of art, colonial-era design, and contemporary Moroccan cultural preservation.

After the gardens, we will stop next door to relax with a cup of coffee.

1:00 pm ~ Tagine cooking class and lunch

Enjoy a hands-on culinary experience in Marrakesh at La Maison Arabe, where you’ll learn traditional Moroccan cooking techniques from a local chef. During the class, you’ll prepare a classic tagine, discovering the balance of spices, slow-cooking methods, and cultural traditions that make Moroccan cuisine so distinctive. This immersive experience offers insight into local ingredients, spice blending, and kitchen customs—culminating in a shared meal of the dishes you’ve prepared together.

3:00 pm ~ Afternoon and evening free to explore Marrakesh on your own

After the cooking class, enjoy your last afternoon and evening in Marrakesh on your own. You have free time to shop, rest, or ask for suggestions. Tonight, dinner is on your own.

DAY 11: THURSDAY, JANUARY 21 | CASABLANCA

After breakfast, we will depart and make our way to Casablanca.

After breakfast, we will take our last bus ride together to Casablanca, which will be around 5 hours. We will stop for lunch on your own at noon.

3:00 pm ~ Casablanca: a church, a temple, and a mosque

Upon arrival in Casablanca, we will begin with a visit to the Church of Notre-Dame de Lourdes, a modernist Roman Catholic church built in 1954 by architect Achille Dangleterre and engineer Gaston Zimmer, known for its striking design and stained glass.

We will then visit Temple Beth-El, an Orthodox synagogue often considered the centerpiece of Casablanca’s once-vibrant Jewish community. While the city is home to more than 30 synagogues, Beth-El stands out for its Marc Chagall–inspired stained glass windows and artistic details, all carefully restored in 1997.

Our day concludes with a visit to the Hassan II Mosque, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Morocco. An extraordinary blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern engineering, its towering minaret rises dramatically above the Atlantic coast, making it a defining symbol of Casablanca’s skyline.

5:00 pm ~ Check in to Hotel Barcelo Anfa Casablanca

We will check into the Barcelo Anfa Casablanca, where you will have time to settle in before our Farewell Dinner. 7:00 pm ~ Farewell dinner party at Rick’s Café Americain

Celebrate our journey with a final dinner party in nostalgic Hollywood style. Rick’s Cafe, the mythical saloon from the 1942 film, Casablanca, is filled with architectural and decorative details reminiscent of the film: curved arches, a sculpted bar, balconies, balustrades as well as dramatic beaded and stenciled brass lighting and plants that cast luminous shadows on white walls.
